Q

Where is Max EPR acquired from what is it based on and how is it indicated?

A

Max EPR is acquired from the EEC or the TMC and is based upon temp and pressure, it is indicated by dual amber radials.

Q

What do the OIL PRESS lights to the left of the EICAS do?

A

They provide a cross check to the EICAS oil pressure indications. They use a sensor than the EICAS pressure sensor.

15
Q

The EEC on PW engines does what?

A

It is powered by a PMA and limits EPR by trimming fuel.

If EPR input fails it controls N1. If both EPR and N1 inputs fail it controls by limiting N2.

16
Q

What does the EEC do on the RR engine?

A

It is powered by a PMA and provides EPR protection by trimming fuel.

17
Q

If the EEC fails on a RR engine what provides engine protection?

A

When the EEC fails on the RR engine the ELC (engine limit controller) provides N1 protection by trimming fuel.

If the EEC and ELC fail observe engine limits.

18
Q

On a PW engine what do illumination of the ELP (engine limit protect lights) indicate?

A

You need to manually observe thrust limits.

19
Q

Does the RR engine have ELP lights?

A

No

20
Q

What are the takeoff power settings used in the 757?

A

Standard power = “de-rated” thrust achieved through using an “assumed temperature”

Max Power

21
Q

What does climb 1 and climb 2 do on a;
RR
PW

A

RR Climb 1 = 6% thrust reduction climb 2 = 12% reduction

PW climb 1 = 8% thrust reduction climb 2 = 15% reduction

22
Q

Describe the START SELECTOR positions.

A

GND-opens the start valve, arms selected igniters, held until idle

AUTO-closes start valve, disarms ignition, provides automatic ignition when slats or anti-ice are selected.

CONT-operates selected igniters continuously

FLT-operates both igniters continuously

23
Q

What are the engine starter duty cycles?

A

2 mins on then N3/2 back to 0, repeat X 2 then a 15 min cooling period.

RR only - one 4 minute cycle then 15 min cooling period.

24
Q

What is an abnormal start?

A

No EGT within 20 secs. of selecting run or rich
EGT quickly nears or exceeds start limit
Oil pressure not normal at idle

Additional PW indications:
No N1 increase when EGT increases
N2 not at idle within 2 mins

25
Q

When do the in-flight engine start parameters display?

A

They display with the FCS (fuel control switch) in cutoff, N3 below idle, FIRE switch not pulled, both EICAS screens working.

26
Q

When would you use the “RICH” position to start a RR engine?

A

When EGT indicates 0 degrees.

27
Q

What does Alan APU FAULT light indicate?

A

Internal APU fault, shutdown or fire.

28
Q

To what altitude are APU electrics available?

A

42,000 feet.

29
Q

To what altitude are APU pneumatics available?

A

17,000 feet

30
Q

What are the APU starter duty limits?

A

3 start attempts in 60 minutes.

31
Q

On the ground, what happens to an APU that is running if you select the main battery OFF?

A

The APU shutsdown without fire detection.
