2.1 cell division Flashcards
(11 cards)
How are chromosomes found in body cells?
Body cells chromosomes are found in pairs
What is the name of the series in which body cells divide?
Body cells divide in a series of stages called the cell cycle
What happens during the cell cycle?
During cell cycle, the genetic material is doubled. Then divides into two identical nuclei in a process called mitosis.
What must the cell do before it can divide?
Before so can divide it must grow, replicate the DNA to form two copies of each chromosome and increase the number of sub cellular structures
What happens during mitosis?
During mitosis, one set of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell and the nucleus divides. Finally, the cytoplasm and cell membranes divide to form two identical cells.
Why is mitotic cell division important?
Mitotic cell division is important in the growth, repair, and development of multicellular organisms
What is mitosis?
My tortoise is part of the cell cycle who one set of new chromosome visible to each end of the cell forming two identical nuclear drink cell division
What is the cell cycle?
The cell cycle is a three stage process of cell division in the body cell that involves my toes and results in the formation of two identical daughter cells
What happens during stage one of the cell cycle?
The longest stage in the cell cycle. The cells grow bigger, increase their mass, and carry out normal cell activities. They also replicate their DNA to form two copies of each chromosome ready for cell division. (Also increased sub cellular structures such as mitochondria, ribosomes and chloroplasts ready for the cell to divide)
What is stage two of the cell cycle?
Mitosis – in this process one set of the chromosomes is pulled to each end of the dividing cell and the nucleus divides
What happens during stage three of the cell cycle?
This is the stage during which the cytoplasm and the cell membranes also divide from two identical daughter cells
