White and black people rode on buses together. They rode to marches to fight for discrimination.
Freedom rides
Many people discriminated against racism. Even white people joined the march.
March on Washington
He was Vice President when the racism was going on and then he was sworn into office when JFK was assassinated.

This act gave black people the right to vote
Voting rights act of 1965
This was a huge deal because it banned segregation in public places and black people got jobs bc it was illegal to not give them a job just bc thus were black
Civil rights act of 1964
This helped certain people out with things like Medicade and Medicare

Blacks wanted to be independent so they did many things for there rights such as riot and marches.
Black power
He helped inspire people to join the “Black Power”, he used speech to get the message out there.

These are all people that were Civil Rights leaders

Little rock nine
There was a 7 year old girl that had to walk all the way across town to get to her school and there was a school next to her house but it was a white school. Her father sewed and got her into the white school.
Brown vs BOE
She was a big reason for the Montgomery Bus boycott. She was told to stand up amd she refused.
Rosa parks
This changed how people got to work or anywhere bc they didn’t ride the bus

People would go to a dinner and sit where a white person would normally sit and they would wait to be served
Sit in
was one of the most important organizations of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. It emerged from a student meeting organized by Ella Baker held at Shaw University in April 1960.
