Figures of speech

Simile
is a figure of speech that directly compares two different things by saying one is the other, without using “like” or “as.”
Metaphor
is a figure of speech where human characteristics are given to non-human objects, animals, or ideas.
Personification
is a figure of speech where the word imitates the natural sound of a thing.
Onomatopoeia
is the repetition of the same consonant sounds at the beginning of words that are close together in a sentence or phrase.
Alliteration
is a literary device that uses the repetition of vowel sounds within nearby words (e.g., “the need for speed”). Assonance enhances the emotional and aesthetic quality of writing, often making it more rhythmic or “catchier.”
Assonance
occurs when events or words are the opposite of what is expected, creating a sense of surprise, humor, or deeper meaning in literature, rhetoric, and everyday situations.
Irony
Is the use of figurative language to represent objects, actions and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses.
