Q

What is hypoxic drive?

A

Particularly in patients with COPD the levels of carbon dioxide in the blood are high this means they become desensitised to this (which is the stimulus to breathe)
Brain uses hypoxia as a stimulus to breathe
High % of O2 can remove this stimulus
