2.3 Atomic Structure Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is the atomic structure of an Atom?
Electrons which are negative. Protons which are positive.
Protons are the opposite in sign but equal in magnitude to that of an electron.
What is the atomic number?
Where is the atomic number found?
The number of protons in any atom of any particular element. The
The atomic number is indicated by the subscript of the element symbol.
What is the atomic mass number?
Where do you find the atomic mass number?
The number of protons plus neutrons in the Atom.
The atomic mass number is indicated by the superscript above the symbol of an element
How do you find the amount of neutrons in an element?
Subtract the atomic number from the atomic mass number. And this will give you the number of neutrons.
How many electrons are in an element?
And any neutral element, the number of electrons equals the number of protons
What are the three sections in the periodic table?
Gas,metalloid, metals
What are the three ways the periodic table is grouped?
It is grouped by elements that react the same in a given condition.
It is grouped by elements that share the same physical and chemical properties.
It is grouped by the charge of each individual Element.
