Imprisonment meets its aims of punishment by locking up criminals for a long time in order to protect society from these individuals. Also, anyone who has a sentence less than 2yrs is released on licence and has to conform to bail conditions and supervision. This helps rehabilitation to be achieved and aims to stop re-offending occurring.
Additionally, fines meet their purpose thoruhg providing deterrence and punishment for the offender. Financial punishment is given through payment of fine. Fines can be escalated if not paid and possible prison time can be gien for non-payment of fines.
