  1. Know setting & Check Flow Meter
  2. Make sure cannula or mask is in place before activity.
  3. Reduce resistance or repetitions, go slow
  4. Facilitate communication to reduce frustration by asking for simple responses.
  5. Remove only one restraint at a time; supervise closely
  6. Corrigated tubing collects moisture from breath and makes more noise… sometimes you have to lift it and let it drain.

  1. Catheter bag should ALWAYS be blow bladder: urine could flow back into the bladder which is a risk for UTI
  2. Pay attention to tubing so it does not get pulled or snagged.

  1. Pumps sound alarms : Do not panic, usually means its time to replace fluids or medication. Call nurse and ask.
  2. Pay attention to tubes: easily caught in sheet, under body.
  3. Where tubes enter body there is high risk for infection, so reduce exposure, use gloves.
