Drug Targets Flashcards
What is used to research the drug targets?
X-ray crystallography
What are the six possible drug targets?
Enzymes, nucleic acid, nuclear receptors, ion channel receptors, plasma membrane receptors and transporters.
Give and example of an enzymes target and drug?
Methotrexate and dihydrofolate reductase.
Saquinaur and HIV protease.
Ibuprofen/aspirin and COX.
Neostigmine and acetylcholine esterase.
Give the two receptors for candasartan and salbutamol and what type they are?
ß2- adrenergic receptor and angiotensin AT-1 receptor. Both are plasma membrane receptors.
Give two transporter examples?
Cocaine to dopamine and sertraline to serotonin.
What does diazepam and glipizide target?
GABAa receptor and ATP sensitive K+ channels
Give an example of a nucleic acid drug and it’s target?
Acitomycin and DNA.
Give an example of a nuclear receptor drug and target?
Tamoxifen and oestrogen.
Define a drug target?
Any biomolecule that binds a drug and induces a biological response
