Q

Describe the Haber process

A

Nitrogen taken from air
Hydrogen taken from cracking oil fractions
Reaction converts these to ammonia ( but not all converted)
N2 and H2 not converted are recycled

Q

Describe why Haber process is reversible

A

High pressure increases percentage yield - forward reaction
High temperature decreases percentage yield - reverse reaction
Lower temperature gives slow reaction rates so high temp used
450 degrees C is optimum temp
Fatalist of iron upset to speed up reaction - keeps costs down
Unused H2 and N2 are recycled
