Constitution
All citizens living in a democracy have civil and political rights which are legal document part of the constitution
What does constitution do?
Provides rules and principles to govern a country and it is supreme and overrides any laws that are inconsistent within it
What does constitution include?
Powers of the branches systems of government agreements between federal and municipal governments, conventions and traditions and charter of rights and freedoms

What is a right?
Legal entitlement provided by the government
What is a freedom?
Write to conduct affairs without interference of the government
What is Civic liberty
Fundamental rights and freedoms protected by law and essential for Democratic society
Seven sections of the charter
Fundamental freedoms
Freedom of religion, thought, expression, press, peaceful, assembly, and association
Democratic rights
Voting for representatives if you are 18 or older vote in federal and provincial elections and participate in election process and you have the right to run for office
Legal rights
If arrested, you must be told Y and the option to see a lawyer, and you must be taken to court with a reasonable amount of time, and we must be considered innocent until proving guilty
Mobility rights
Live and work and travel into any province in Canada you also have the right to enter and leave Canada
Equality rights
Everyone is equal before and under the law and everyone has the right to equal protection equal benefit of the law without discrimination, cannot be treated unfairly for many reasons, including race, origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, mental/physical ability
Official language rights
Talk or right to the federal government in English or French
Minority language, education, rights
You have the right to be educated in your own language
