Every person has a number of sub-identities or roles they play in society. Clothing helps to define each separate role. You will note the emphasis on appearance as communicator and as agent in the development of the self.

2.4.3 An emerging lifestyle
A
Consistent patterns of clothing emerge. These gradually develop into a lifestyle. When choosing clothes for oneself or advising others on wardrobe planning, it will be wrong to decide on clothing that is in conflict with the inner self and resulting style of life.
