What is an OS?
An operating system, manages the resources of a computer system
What does the OS do?
Manages input and output devices, Manages memory, Manages backing storage, Manages security, Manages processes
What differs multiprocessors single processors?
Multiprocessors provides more throughput as it is parallelised
How does VoIP differ to cellular calls?
VoIP uses the internet to transmit voice calls, while cellular calls utilise radio waves and cell towers
What causes software errors?
When programs are poorly written or if a user inputs unexpected data
What are two software troubleshooting methods?
Anti-virus and Event Viewer
What is a protocol?
A set of standardised rules that allow two devices to communicate with each other (similar how two people who speak different languages use a common 3rd language to communicate)
What protocols transfer data?
TCP, IP, UDP
What protocol transfers files?
FTP (Files Transfer Protocol)
What is the TCP/IP protocol stack?
Application - Transport - Network - Link
What does HTTP do?
Transfers web pages across the world
