A
Takes air into and out of the body so oxygen can diffuse into the blood stream and carbon dioxide can diffuse out the blood stream

The lower part of the body. The abdomen by the diaphragm

The intercostal muscles contract.
The diaphragm muscles contract.
It increases the volume of the thorax

The diaphragm muscles relax
Reduction to the volume of the throax

A
A large surface area richly supplied with blood capillaries
