sloped from anterior to posterior
allows for mobility in all directions especially rotation
stacked facets assist in supporting weight of head

allows for small amount of extension flexion and lateral bending
very little rotation, thoracic cage also limits flexibility
What plane are the lumbar Vert?
saggital plane
allows for flexion/extension and rotation severely restricting side bending and rotation

Doral rami of adjacent vert
What are the joints between vert bodies?
symphysis joint
fibrocariagenous disc between two hyaline cartilages covered by a bony surface

intervertebral disk
What does each intervetebral disk consist of?
outer annulus fibrosis
inner nucleus pulposis
What are annulus fibrosis made up of?
series of concentric fibrocatilagenous lamellae the alternate in fiber orientation foe strength
What are the nucleus pulposis?
gelatinous
Where are the annulus fibrosis weaker at?
posteriorly because it is weaker posteriorly
What is the innervation of the intervetebral disk?
bey the adjacent sympathetic nerves
and spinal nerves
Where does intervertebral disk receive their nutrients?
they are avascular so they get there nutrients that diffuse through the endplates of vertebrae
