Electronic Ice Detector Purpose

A

Provides electronic warning to crew when aircraft is subjected to icing conditions. 0.5mm Ice Accretion activates it.

Electronic Ice Detector Location

A

Lower forward portion of fuselage (under nose) just ahead of the nose gear.

Electronic Ice Detector Theory of Operation (How do it work?)

A

Vibrates normally, when ice accretes on the detector the natural frequency of vibration is modified and detected. Activates ACAWS “ICE CONDITION” Caution message

Should Ice remain on the detector probe?

A

As soon as Ice is detected, a heating circuit is activated to melt the ice on the probe. Time less than 7 seconds. Over heat protection exists at 54.4 deg C.

A
