Q

Write a brief summary of the story “Adrift on an Ice-Pan.”

A

Grenfell started out with his dogsled to go to a boy who needed medical attention. As he was going over what he had thought was solid ice, however, his dogs and sled began sinking in the loose “slob.” Grenfell managed to get himself and his dogs onto a pan of ice that was floating out to sea. During the time he was on this ice, he stayed alive by killing some of his dogs for their furs. He also worked at attracting attention by waving his hands and by waving a flag made from his shirt and the legs of the dead dogs. Grenfell was finally rescued by five fishermen who force a boat through the icy water.
