Q

Amylopectin and glycogen(sugar in liver) are polymers of:

A

Polymers of glucose

They have branch points that are the (alpha 1➡️6) branch points where a sugar will have another linkage to glucose (alpha 1➡️4) and second one via (alpha 1➡️6). By branching we can compact glucose into a much smaller space.

Q

Glc(alpha 1➡️4)x repeating

A

Amylose is formed of many of these glucose bonds.
Simple form of starch.

Alpha 1➡️4 bonds are easily broken by enzyme amylase.

Q

A variation of amylose is cellulose

A

It is a string of glucoses and is linked by (Beta 1➡️4). Humans do not possess the enzymes to break down this kind of link….like plant fiber.
