Chapter 3 Flashcards
What is the atmosphere
Thin spherical envelope of gases surrounding the earth surface
What are the four major components of earths life-support system?
Atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, biosphere
What is the hydrosphere
Consist of all the water on or near the earths surface
What is geosphere
Consist of the earths intensely hot core, Thick Mantel composed mostly of rock, and A thin outer crust
What is biosphere
Consist of the parts of the atmosphere hydrosphere and geosphere where Life is found
What are three factors to sustain earth’s life?
One-way flow of high-quality energy, cycling of nutrients, gravity
What is trophic level
Feeding level
Producers sometimes called auto troughs are what
Self feeders make the nutrients they need from certain compounds and energy obtained from there environment
Consumers or heterotrophs
Cannot produce the nutrients they need to photosynthesis or other processes they get their nutrients by feeding on other organisms
Primary consumers or herbivores are
Plant eaters animal that eat mostly green plants
What is aerobic respiration
Uses oxygen to convert glucose or other argument nutrient molecules back into carbon dioxide and water
