Magma under ground

What three types of rock is the Earth composed of?
- Igneous
* ignite - burning molten rock - Metamorphic - pure

When lava comes out of the ground, quickly hardens, and has impurities, what type of rock is it?
Igneous - granite
When dried-up igneous rock experiences weathering and shifts away, what kind of rock does it become?
Sedimentary
- In sedimentary rock beds
- the deeper the bed the older*
When continuity in rock layer changes what has occurred? What it is called?
After Deposition,
A fault shift occurred - discontinuity
When sedimentary rock is pressurized for a long period of time, what does it become?
Ex. Sedimentary - sandstone
Becomes metamorphic rock
Ex. Diamond
After a rock has become metamorphic, how does it return to igneous?
It is heated up tremendously and returns to igneous
Give examples of weathering
Physical - wind / rain / ice - expands rock and breaks it
Chemical - acid rain (a lot pollutants rain down) break down rock
What does weathering require?
Some degree of surface exposure. Land must have been exposed
Give the difference between land with smooth contours and angular landforms
- Land with smooth contours are older and have eroded more frequently
- angular landforms have experienced less erosion
How do fossil records help us determine depositional timelines of _________ ?
Sedimentary layers
- help us determine dating and timing of fossils & layers

- Weathering
- Depth
