Q

What is a feathering prop and why do we feather the pro.

A

A feathered prop is when position the prop at 90 on blade angle to minimize the parasite drag of a windmilling prop

Q

How does the multi- engine prop system works

A

Is of the full feathering prop. High pressure oil from the governor maintains the prop in the low pitch setting. It is necessary to feather in event of engine failure. Counter weights tend to drive prop to high pitch settings with the help of centrifugal forces and high pressure air store at the dome.

Q

What prevents a prop to feather on the ground at low RPM

A

A small pin in the picture ch changing mechanism that prevents the prop to feather. When rpm is below 800

Q

What is an accumulator and how it works

A

It permits starting the restarting the engine without the use of electric starter. It is a reserved oil pressure tank that is release when the prop lever is moved forward and drives the prop out of the feathering. The governor recharge this tanks moments after the engine stars

Q

What is a prop sync

A
The prop sync is a system in some aircraft that precisely match both prop RPM to reduce the annoying drumming. The system must be disengaged when:
Selecting new rpm
Landings
Taking off
Single engine operations
