Minimum Helicopter SAR Equipment

The following is the minimum required SAR equipment to be maintained in the aircraft when conducting any SAR mission: Cranials - 3 Cable Grip Chem Lights - 12 (6 gen purpose, 6 high intensity) Chem Light Straps - 3 DRH - duh a rescue hook Hand Tool Heavy Duty Gloves Litter Assembly (SAR MEDEVAC) Litter Sling Assembly Level A/B Med kits Oxygen - Corpsman use only Quick Splice Plate Rescue Equipment Bag Rescue Strop Safety Belt - 3 (Gunner's Belts) Trail Line assembly Wool Blankets - 2
Additional Required SAR Equipment for Over Water

The following is the minimum required SAR equipment to be maintained in the aircraft when conducting any overwater SAR mission, including plane guard. (6 MK-58s may be substituted for 1 and 2) Datum-marking device - when available LPU-32/P - 3 Marine marker lights - 3 MK-58 smoke - 2 MK-25 smoke - 4 MPLR weak link - we can't carry MPLR
MK-124 MOD 0 Smoke and Illumination Signal
Flare/Smoke combo on our vest, emits either orange smoke or red flare for approx 20 seconds.
MK-58 Smoke
Day or night use, burns for approx 45 minutes
MK-25 Smoke
Day or night use, burns 10-20 minutes
SHALL NOT be launched in a hover because of valve plug possibly striking aircraft
Can be resafed if not used
Life Preserver We Use

Quick Splice Plate
Intended for use when the hoist cable has been intentionally cut. Five numbered holes and secured with a stainless steel clip.
Trail Line Assembly
Trail line assembly is used to control and guide rescue equipment to the desired location during helicopter and shipboard hoisting operations

used during a hoist failure to take weight off the hoist in conjunction with a gunners belt

SAR MEDEVAC Litter
designed for water, shipboard, mountain or restricted area rescues. Able to be hoisted vertically or horizontally. Folds in half for stowage or shipboard movement. Fully rigged, weighs 40 pounds and measures 80 inches by 16.5 inches

Quick Strop
The quick strop is authorized for use only in conjunction with the TRI-SAR harness. It SHALL NOT be used with any other RS harness.

AN/PRC-149 Radio Set
PRC-149 radio set is a personal noncombat emergency communication radio and emergency location beacon transmitter.
Med Kits
The Level “A” SAR med kit is designed for all units that maintain SAR capable helicopters. The Level “B” med kit is used in conjunction with the Level “A” med kit for all units that maintain SAR-capable helicopters that may utilize SAR hospital corpsmen.
SAR Coordinator
The Rescue Coordination Centers (RCCs), which are established worldwide by geographic location, handle the function of the SAR coordinator and, if not directly involved in the search operation, SHALL be informed and kept abreast of the progress of the search.
SAR Mission Coordinator
SMC - typically assigned by the SAR Coordinator, but in the case of a military search the OTC or unit designated by the OTC shall assume the duties of SMC
