(3) SFE And MSE Flashcards
(37 cards)
it focuses on the entire speech mechanism; the function.
Structural Functional Evaluation
Purpose of SFE
Determine or R/O Dysarthria
Determine or R/O Oral Apraxia
SFE Involves Examination of
● Structures
● Tissue Characteristics
● Sensation
● Function
General Observation in SFE
- Facial symmetry
- Drooling
- Dentition
- Tissue Characteristics
- Others
In examination of structure we look at
- Relative size
- Abnormalities
- Others
In sensory function we look at:
Sensation
2 sensations we look at sensory function
Tactile and Proprioceptive
In motor function we look at:
- ROM
- Speed
- Strength
- Coordination
- Ability to vary muscle tension
Basically determining whether ung structures can move far enough for the purpose of speech production para macomplete niya ung speech sounds and feeding and swallowing functions.
Range of Motion
Ability of the patient to maintain the position against resistance or do the action against resistance.
Strength
if the structure can move at varying speeds and with velocity na required for connected speech
Speed
alternating movement. You alternate the movement and you repeat the movement.
Coordination
observe ang ability ng bata
na volitionally mar-relax and tense ng muscles.
Ability to vary muscle tension
What do we look for the Function: Velum
- Fatigue
- Range
- Immediate/ Delay with Phonation
- Symmetry
Jaw movement
- Up and down
- Left and right
- Forward and backward
- Rotary movement (important)
Jaw Assessment
- Feeding
- Rest posture
- Articulation posture
- Consultation with motor therapists
- Oral motor exam and imitation
Lips movement
- Pursing
- Lower lip to upper incisors
- Pucker
- Retract
Lips Ax
- Resting posture
- Tone
- Articulation testing
- Oral motor and imitation tasks
- Feeding
Tongue Ax
- Horse shoe shape elevation
- Tongue tip elevation
- Back elevation
- Lateral elevation
- Blade elevation
cranial Nerves we examine
V. VII, IX, X, and XII
v trigeminal nerve
