Why are smritis arguably better than srutis?
A
smritis are more accessible and change with the times, while the srutis are for the elite Sanskrit scholars and not available for the wider population.

- complexities of dharma
- balance of destiny and free will

- Astikadi (historical nattative)
- Manvadi (religious or moral interpretations)
- Auparicara (spiritual/trascendental meaning)

What are some potential reasons why Smritis are more influential than srutis?
A
- srutis are impenetrable even for scholars, smritis are simpler and can be translated
- sugar-coated pill
- most of our ideas about deities come from it
- we learn about avatars from smritis
- more branches of hinduism rely on their epics rather than their Vedic scriptures
- smritis are easier and closer to the yuga dharma, whereas srutis are more towards the yuga dharma of the satya yuga
- only pakka brahmanas are allowed to study the vedas and srutis whereas smritis are free to all.
