literature review
i will research into existing statistical data of … in young people this is likely to be from official statistics , i will also investigate to see if there are any existing qualitative studies that explore why..
this will allows to draw some comparison from past studies to allow to shape my questions in different way to see if we gain the same result
methods paragraph
I believe that the best method to use to conduct this research is a questionnaire. Questionnaires are a list of questions answered independently by the participant, online on in person. The answers are pre-set This is will be practical for the research as it will allow me to provide a range questions to the participant with allow to gain quantitative data for our findings. There are lot of practical factors toward the use of questionnaires. One practical factor of questionnaires is that questionnaires are quicker and cheaper to carry out than the same number of interviews. This is good as it will us to reach a large sample with a short time period. Additionally, questionnaires can gather large amounts of quantitative data this is because we can use a range of different questions in order to draw conclusions of findings. For example for the research of… in the context of …. we would three types of Questions to gain a broad range of data these are open Question , Closed questions and the use of the Likert Scale. . as a result will be able to analyse the data easily and establish cause and effect patterns within the research. There are some ethical factors to consider when conducting a questionnaires. With questionnaires, there is informed consent this is because participants have to Opt-in, participate in the research With Questionnaires, there is no level of risk with questionnaires. Positivists argued the structured procedure of Questionnaires is good as it allows the researcher to gain Quantitative data that is high in reliability and representativeness. However,Interprevists argue that it is hard to gain validity that it is hard to gain validity and therefore achieve verstehen this is because with questionnaires the participant is not giving an in depth response to the question, as the researcher is unable to gain a full picture
sample paragraph
I will use a sample size of 20-30 students Snowball sampling; i will ask one of my friends at the college to complete my questionnaire and ask them to put me in touch with others a snowball gives easy access to sample as i am using people i am put in touch with touch with at the college you attend. The sample size is achievable as an a-level student as i can know have more than this amount of people at my disposal and hopefully they will take part. Using people at college as it saves time and money.
pilot study paragraph
i will be using 3 people in order to test my question.
They will complete the questionnaire i will check on the effectiveness of the questionnnaire by looking
1. How long it took for them to complete and return the questionnaire, do you now need to revise my overall sample size or shorten the questionnaire?
Did they clearly understand what all questions were asking? If not then validity may be compromised and therefore i may need to reword questions
3. Have their responses made meconsider including other questions on …
Ethics paragraph
i will include a disclaimer paragraph at the beginning of the questionnaire, this will give participants information about the intended exploration of …. and that the data is purely for the purposes of my studies as a student, this will enable them to give informed consent as they know what the research is about and will also avoid deceiving them, and I will presume they are consenting by returning the questionnaire. In the disclaimer I will also make it clear that they can withdraw themselves or their data at any time by contacling myself on an email provided. I will also outline how I will ensure their data is confidential as I will provide no names in my written report and it will only be myself who can identify responses with individual participants”
Problems and impacts paragraph
one practical factor of questionnaires that may be a problem for research is it may be difficult to find the time to analyse the results and determine and as a-level student this may impact how accurate the results are. Another problem that could impact the research people may not be honest whilst filling out the questionnaire additionally the use of the snowball sampling participant may reach out to people with similar characteristics to conduct the questionnaire. This may impact the reliability of research due to the level of bias within the findings., additionally as Intreprevist argue this may impact the validity of research therefore the research is unable to achieve verstehen as questions with an questionnaires are inflexible this can also impact the validity as the researcher is not gain an In depth responses from the participant. Which could potentially lead to inconsistent findings Another Problem is that questionnaires often have low response rates and as a result may impact the representativeness of the research
