Q

Histology of diabetic nephropathy

A
  • thickening of basement membrane associated with leakiness of capillary wall
  • leakage of plasma protein into glomerular filtrate leads to proteinuria and occasionally nephrotic syndrome
  • eosinophilic coagulated fibrin deposition on surface of glomeruli
  • mesangial matrix formation
  • Kimmelstiel Wilson nodules

Insulinoma (beta cells)

A
  • most common type of PanNet (pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor)
  • high circulating insulin and c-peptide
  • clinical: hypoglycemia, confusion, convulsions, coma

Q

Gastrinoma (G cells): zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

A
  • ZE syndrome: pancreatic/duodenal gastrinoma hypergastrinemia, gastric acid secretion, peptic ulceration
  • diarrhea and steatorrhea due to hyperacidity that may cause difficulty in fat absorption
  • gastrinoma triangle: pancreas, peripancreas, duodenum
  • mostly malignant
