Q

Technology and cost

A

Although building wind turbines is expensive it still remains the preferred choice as price of other sources is high.
China is a low cost producer solar PV cells which use sunlight and convert to energy.
In developing countries renewables can provide energy cheaply and quickly.

Unequal shares

A

Distributed unevenly throughout the world and also consumed unequally. Many of these countries consuming large amounts of energy depend on oil imports.
Those with an energy deficit suffer energy insecurity, even if they had the money to purchase the energy to make up the deficit.

Q

Energy poverty

A

1.6 billion people have no access to electricity and 80 per cent of these live rurally.
2.4 billion people rely on trading all biomass for cooking and heating.
People suffering from energy insecurity need clean and sustainability energy such as solar. This can reduce the burden of poverty and environmental degradation
