Q

What class of drug is Keto-pro-fen? How would it lead to an ulcer?

A

An NSAID (an intense Ibuprofen). NSAIDs are COX inhibitors that block not only inflammatory prostaglandin production, but also physiological prostaglandins (COX-1 and COX-2). Prostaglandin is a Mucus stimulant, block it you block Mucus production.

Q

A

Its a Penecillin-stops bacterial cell wall production.

17
Q

What class of drug is Eso-Mep-Razole? How does it work?

A

A PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor). Stopping acid production in the Parietal Cells of the stomach.

18
Q

What three drugs are used in Triple Therapy? For what condition?

A

Peptic Ulcer Disease..2 AntiBiotics (H. Pylori is TOUGH) and a PPI.

19
Q

What class of drug is Ran-it-id-ine? How does it fight ulcers?

A

It is a Histamine receptor blocker. Blocking histamine blocks one stimulant on Paritetal cells to produce H+

20
Q

Why would just taking Tums not really treat PUD?

A

It is merely neutralizing Acid already made. It is not addressing the H. Pylori and it is not slowing down acid production.
