3.10 giant metallic structures Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
How are metals able to be bent in shaped?
A
Because the layers of atoms (or positively charged ions) in a giant metallic structure can slide over each other
2
Q
Why are alloys harder than pure metals?
A
I always are harder than pure metals because the regular layers in a pure metal are distorted by atoms of different sizes in an alloy
3
Q
What do delocalised electrons in metals enable?
A
They enable electricity and some energy to be transferred through a metal easily
4
Q
What are alloys?
A
The mixture of two or more elements, at least one of which is a metal
