Q

Explain how some of the widespread ideas during the Great Awakening affected the American colonies and lead to a desire for liberty and the war for independence. Think of five facts.

A

Colonists saw that all men were created equal so no man was better than any other. They were equal in the sight of the law. The idea of equal justice was expressed in the Declaration of Independence. The preaching of the Great Awakening united colonists together and made them feel like one nation under God. This feeling strengthened their desire for independence. The teachings of the Bible influenced American architecture, music, philosophy, poetry and peoples’ view of history. They valued hard work. Many became missionaries.
