Q

How do you tell that a stroke is in the brain stem and not the brain?

A

Specific Cranial nerve symptoms (symptoms that can only be due to cranial nerves, not the brain): eg double vision, sensory damage limited to trigeminal nerve, total deafness in an ear, nystagmus, spasticity or wasting on one side of the tongue.

Limb problems on ones side, with cranial nerve problems on the other side means: brainstem
