3.4 Process of transpiration Flashcards
(8 cards)
Process of transpiration
water loss in form of water vapour from surface of leaves to the air through evaporation
Epidermis of a leaf is made up of
single layer of epidermal cell covering both the upper and lower surface of leaf
Name of upper and lower surface of leaf?
Upper epidermis and lower epidermis
Exudation or guttation is
water loss from plants in liquid form through hydathodes that are open at the edge of the leaves
When does guttation usually occur ?
at night or when air humidity is high
What is the rate of transpiration
temperature
light intensity
air humidity
movement of air
Function of xylem
transport water and dissolved mineral salts from the roots to the leaves through the stem to carry out photosynthesis and to replace water lost during transpiration
Function of phloem
transports sucrose produced by leaves during photosynthesis to other parts of the plant
