Cranial nerves Flashcards
Where is the olfactory cell body?
Olfactory epithelium
What is the olfactory course?
Through cribriform plate of ethmoid
What does olfactory nerve innervate in periphery?
Olfactory epithelium
Where is optic (CN II) cell body?
Ganglionic layer of retina
What is optic course?
Orbit -> Optic canal -> Optic chiasm -> Optic tract
What does optic nerve innervate?
Retina (bipolar cells)
Where is Oculomotor normal motor cell body?
Where is parasympathetic motor cell body?
Normal - oculomotor nucleus
Parasympathetic motor - Edinger-Westphal nucleus
What is CN III course? (Parasympathetic)
Superior orbital fissure –> ciliary ganglion
What is CN III peripheral innervation?
Normal: many eye muscles (you know them)
Parasympathetic: postganglionic short ciliary nerves to constrictor pupillae and ciliary muscles of eyeball
Where is trochlear cell body?
Trochlear nucleus
What is CN IV course?
Through superior orbital fissure
What does CN IV innervate?
Superior oblique muscle
Where are CN V cell bodies? (3 different ones)
Motor - Trigeminal motor nucleus
Sensory - Trigeminal ganglion
Sensory (jaw proprioception) - Mesencephalic nucleus
What are the different CN V courses? (3 different ones)
Motor - Foramen ovale (V3)
Sensory -
V1 (superior orbital fissure)
V2 (foramen rotundum)
V3 (foramen ovale)
Sensory (jaw proprioception) -
travels with V1-V3
What are the CN V peripheral innervations?
(motor/sensory) Face areas
