Define MHC receptor:
cell surface molecules that present Antigen to T-cells. There are 2 classes: MHC I and MHC II
Where are MHC receptors found on cells?
Surface receptors on cell membrane
Do all human tissue cells have an MHC receptor?
All nucleated cells (red blood cells do not have a nucleus at maturity and do not have MHC surface receptors)
What cells display MHC I receptors?
All nucleated body cells
What 3 cell types display MHC II receptors?
In addition to MHC I receptors, B-cells, Macrophages, and Dendritic cells also have MHC II receptors.
What type of antigens do MHC I receptors hold?
Endogenous Antigens, internal antigen material: self-antigens or antigen material due to an infection in cell
What type of antigens do MHC II receptors hold?
Exogenous Antigens, foreign antigens only never self-antigen material
What T-cell interacts with antigen displayed on MHC I receptors?
Cytotoxic T-cell
What T-cell interacts with antigen displayed on MHC II receptors?
Helper T-cell
Do B-cells interact with antigen displayed on either type of MHC receptor?
No, B-cells only interact with free antigens
What does the abbreviation APC represent?
Antigen presenting cell
What specific cells are referred to as Antigen presenting cells?
B-cells, Macrophages, and Dendritic cells
What specific cell plays a key role in T-cell activation within lymph node?
Dendritic cells as they migrate from infection site to lymph node to display antigen on both MHC I and MHC II receptors on cell surface.
