Unreasonable attack on the writers own authority or character
Ethical fallacy
Unfairly appeals to a persons emotions
Emotional fallacy
A fallacy that is a personal attack on a character to distract from the argument
Ad hominem
A statement in support of a particular truth, fact, or claim
Testimonial
A fallacy in which there is an overstatement of more than is true
Exaggeration
A fallacy that applies broad generalizations to a person or group which are often untrue
Stereotyping
Agreeing to an argument simply based on another person who may not be fully qualified
Appeal to authority
A fallacy in which a claim is based on faulty logic relating two things only because they are in the same category
Categorical claim
Very specific or clear to understand
Explicit message
Uses graphics, body language, etc. To communicate meaning- the meaning must be inferred ( implied)
Implicit message
The attitude toward a subject
Tone
Level of sophistication in language, word choice, appearance and delivery of a message
Formality
Business-like, high-level vocabulary, very structured
Formal tone
Very personal, sometimes slang vocabulary
Informal tone
The ability to effect other peoples thinking
