Q

What can the diversity index be used for?

A

Can be used to compare biodiversity of different ecosystems, or to monitor change in biodiversity in a community over time
Greater biodiversity= more healthy community

Q

How does deforestation reduce biodiversity?

A

Deforestation is done to increase area for farmland; reduces number of trees and tree species
Destroys habitats so species die or migrate

Q

How does a growing human population effect biodiversity?

A

Growing human population = more demand for food = maximise food production, at the expense of biodiversity

Q

How does the removal of hedgerows reduce biodiversity?

A

Done to increase size of fields= farming is more efficient; reduces number of hedgerows and hedgerow species
Destroys habitats = species die/ migrate
