Risk factors for osteoporosis?

A
  1. Small framed
  2. Asian and Caucasians
  3. African Americans are less susceptible to osteoporosis.
  4. Occurs less in men and occurs usually older (1 decade later).
  5. Risk increases with age for both genders.
  6. Inadequate nutrition: Diet must include adequate calories, calcium and vitamin D.
  7. Patients with bariatric surgery, celiac disease and alcoholism.
  8. Immobilization by cast, general inactivity, paralysis etc.
  9. Obesity: less active, key nutrients usually not included.
