How many sections does the Q400 have, and what do they contain?

A
  • Forward - the flight deck, from the noise, aft to the flight deck door & bulkhead. Has the majority of the controls, circuit breakers, and a/c indications.
  • Center - Passenger cabin and baggage compartments. Baggage doors open out, and cannot be opened from inside.
  • Aft - Extends from the aft pressure bulkhead and includes the empennage, its supporting structure, the air conditioning packs, and the APU.

Describe the Empennage

A

-The Verticle Stabilizer and aftmost portion of the fuselage are one piece, which is mounted on the aft section of the fuselage. The Rudder has a fore and aft section, hinged to the Verticle Stabilizer. It is Hydraulically Powered. The Horizontal Stabilizer is attached to the top of the Vertical Stabilizer, and has two independent Hydraulic Elevators that normally operate together. Comoposite leading edges with bonded boots, all around

Doors

A
  1. The Cabin has three Type I doors, and one Type II/III Emergency Exit. All can be opened from inside or outside, and all send signals to the PSEU.
  2. The Type II/III Emergency Exit is a plug type door, incorporates a ditching damn, and opens inward.
  3. The Flight Crew Emergency Exit can only be opened from inside the a/c, falls inward, and does nto send a signal to the PSEU.
  4. The Cargo Doors can only be opened from outside, however, the Foreward Cargo Door can be accessed through the Foreward Storage Closet.
