What is urea?
A waste product made by the body after digesting protein. It is extremely toxic and is excreted via the kidneys in the urine.
What are the functions of the kidneys?
The kidneys filter the water in the body. They filter, purify and keep it to the right amount to give you a healthy blood pressure.
Where is the water absorbed in the bloodstream?
Water is absorbed into the bloodstream from the small and large intestine.
What is dehydration?
When your fluid levels are running low.
What happens to the small molecules?
Some of the minerals and salts are reabsorbed from the collecting tubules.
Are all molecules lost or are some reabsorbed?
The large molecules stay in the urine by forcing the blood through a fine filter of the blood vessels called the glomerulus.
Where does the urine go when it leaves the bladder?
The urine goes to the urethra.
Where are the adrenal glands located?
On top of each kidney.
What tube connects the kidney to the bladder?
The tube is the ureter.
What’s the function of nephrons?
Nephrons clean the body. They remove wastes and get rid of water you body does not need.
What is the outer skin of the kidney called?
The cortex.
What’s the name of the small grape-like structures inside the kidneys?
Medullas.
What’s the inner core of the kidneys called?
The pelvis.
Which blood vessel is closer to the kidneys?
The renal artery is closer to the kidney than the renal vein.
