It’s one of the most important principles of America. Faith allow you that connection to God without proof. If you don’t have a God you don’t have faith???

A
Idea of God is everywhere (Spinoza/ Leibniz)
Deist idea. (Not a practically God, there’s some form of transcendence everywhere in the world. We can have access to it everywhere, in the nature (the grass could be God) don’t need a bible, church: just the body and mind! Livery shocking for the century and radical idea (Pagan)

What about Protestantism?

Kind of Protestant. Whitman is inspired but goes further : all we need is the visible access to God, everywhere we go.
