Questions to ask, the 5 W’s
Who,what, when, where, and why?
Spam or email that says “account has been compromised, visit your bank account now” which tricks you to going to a bad website
Phising
Captures anything you type, anything saved that’s written, saves passwords, and is only noticeable a long while after you log in, also takes bank account information.
Trojan Horse
Sends information to other companies, can see what companies are doing online.
Spyware
Can delete files on PC. Can change info saved in Word and can alter bank info and can change anything.
Worms
Turn off antivirus software. Starts before Windows
Rootkits
An instrument of crime
Computer
Theft, fraud, cyber stalking, network intrusion, alteration of data, money laundering, child porn,organized crime and piracy
Types of crime
Who commits these crimes?
Hackers, crackers, phreakers, white hats, black hats, grey hats, and often bored teenagers
Commit corporate espionage and cyber warfare
Professional hackers
Why do these crimes?
Prestige in community, to get a job, part of their job, terrorism, profit, political agenda
Where do they take place?
Hard do determine since it’s over the internet using, spam sent to a website and the data stored can be elsewhere.
When?
Hard to determine, can happen quickly or over a period of time.
Recover hidden data, damaged or deleted data, virtually everything that has been sent over the web is still available somewhere
