The Demographic Transition Model

A
  • 4 stages:
    + 1st stage: birth rates and death rates are both high => population remains low
    + 2nd stage: birth rates remain high, but death rates begin to fall => population increases
    + 3rd stage: birth rates begin to fall, but still remain higher than death rates => population continues to increase
    + 4th stage: Birth rates and death rates are both low => population remains constant
    + 5th stage: birth rates start to fall below death rates => population declines
