they went to new england because there was more land, more jobs in mills and tanneries, and generally more profts to be had. Quebec was beomcing crowded and the land distributions narrow.

- -federal legislature removing french education
- -general disregad for french culture by rest of canada
- -they banded to gether to preserve their unique culture and their language.

- proximity to the heartland of ontario created a demand for fruit and wine
- not all land was fertile enough for growing, that portion good for livestock farming
- they are unique because they do not mainly grow apples, instead they grow peaches,apples are only a minority

better soil and better microclimates, southern area is better for hay-pasture-dairy farming.
