Q

Somatic Nervous System

A

Includes all sensory information going in and deliberate muscle movement. All Somatic neurons produce acetylcholine.

Q

Sympathetic Nervous System

A

Prepares body to flee or fight. Sympathetic cells are cholinergic and andrenergic, meaning they secrete acetylcholine and adrenaline.

7
Q

Parasympathetic Nervous System

A

Normalises the effects of Sympathetic nervous system; maintains resting body function. Parasympathetic cells only produce acetylcholine.

12
Q

Negative feedback

A

When blood levels of a particular hormone increase, the pituitary gland reacts to this by inhibiting the release of that hormone

Posterior

A

Back. Otherwise known as Caudal.

17
Q

Medial

A

Toward the middle. Otherwise known as Mesial

18
Q

Lateral

A

Toward the side

19
Q

Ventral

A

On the bottom (inferior)

20
Q

Dorsal

A

On the top (superior)

21
Q

Afferent

A

Information going into the brain

22
Q

Efferent

A

Information going out of the brain

23
Q

Efferent

A

Information going out of the brain

24
Q

Transverse

A

Cutting into two pieces vertically, so you have a ‘front’ and a ‘back’ section. (different in spinal cord, where it’s cut straight through)

25
Q

Horizontal

A

Cutting through the middle so you have a ‘top’ and a ‘bottom’

26
Q

Sagital

A

Right down the middle, cutting the brain in half through the longitudinal fissure. Cuts it neatly into two hemispheres

27
Q

What’s a group of cell bodies called inside vs outside of the brain?

A

Inside - Nucleus

Outside - Ganglion

28
Q

What’s a group of axons called inside vs outside of the brain?

A

Inside - Tract

Outside - Nerve

29
Q

Dorsal root

A

In spinal cord - relays sensory info into spinal cord

30
Q

Ventral root

A

In spinal cord - controls muscles in the body
