Why does temperature affect the distribution of organisms?
e.g: Arctic plants are small which limits the number of plant eaters who can survive in that area.
Why does the availability of carbon dioxide affect the distribution of organisms?
Lack of carbon dioxide will affect plant growth and consequently the food available for animals.
What are two ways quantities date can obtained?
Random quantitive sampling using a quadrat
Sampling along a transect
Why is a quadrat?
A square frame which can be divided into a grid
How can the sample size be representative of, for example, a field?
Quadrats must be placed randomly to be representative of the whole field.
How is a transect not random?
A line is marked between two points and a quadrat will be placed for example every five metres along the line.
How would a measurement be reproducible?
If the investigation is repeated by another person by using different equipment or techniques, and the same results are obtained.
How can you make sure an investigation is valid?
Only the independent variable should affect the results, all other variables must be controlled.
Why do enzyme reactions slow down?
When the temperature falls the enzymes work slower.
