Q

‘She’s my Western Front.’ (Dakin about Fiona)

A

He constantly objectifies Fiona trough Historical metaphors. Again, this shows in a way, how woman are never the ones in control throughout History. (‘History’s not such a frolic for women as it is for men’ pg84).
For Dakin, sex is a battlefield for which he needs to ‘conquer’- again showing his arrogance, he is only caring for himself and not Fiona throughout.

Dakin wants to please Irwin sexually. However, this is only superficial as, after the crash, Irwin has lost his appeal.

Q

‘You don’t not wank? Jesus. You’re headed for the bin…. Just tell me on the big day and I’ll stand well back.’ (Dakin to Scripps)

A

Dakin doesn’t see any appeal in any religion, but this quotes also shows how he provides comic relief to the play. The interaction between the boys shows a very light, ‘banterous’ mood.
