Provides many jobs - 250,000 in direct employment,
Multiplier effect for the other sectors,

What are the economic problems due to tourism facing Kenya?

A

The number of tourists fluctuates meaning the economy is harmed by any drop in tourists. In 2007, tribal violence due to a disputed election caused many people to cancel trips to Kenya. It took 2 years to recover the same amount to tourists as before.

A

Coral reefs damaged by boats dropping anchor and tourists breaking bits off as souvenirs,
Animals disturbed by safari drivers getting to close to the wildlife for extra tips,
Soil erosion causing huge dust clouds because of the 4x4’s driving along the tracks frequently.

Why is there conflict between the Masai and the authorities in Kenya? (3)

A

The Masai were forced off their land to make game parks,
The Masai are injured and killed by wild animals but are prohibited from killing them,
They receive very little profit from the safari parks while the government take all the profits from the entrance fees.

New tourist activities such as canoeing is being developed to diversify the tourism there,
