Explain the life cycle

A

More than 3000 species - each with preferred tissue decomposition
stage for deposit of eggs or larvae

Sarcophagids lay 1st stage larvae in sores, wounds, decomposing areas, necrotic areas, wool soiled with urine/feces

Larvae develop to 3rd stage - leave host

Pupate in soil - overwintering stage

Adult - nonparasitic

A

Bacterial growth

Odors from decomposing tissues - attract flies

Wet wool (bacteria - odors) on sheep - attract flies
     - Sheep become restless, kick/bite at flies
