Grammar Notes Flashcards

1
Q

Explain impact of prepositional cases on spelling.

A

Nouns change their spelling when used in prepositional phrases. An ending of –e replaces the standard noun ending –a or it’s simply added to the last consonant of the standard noun (“zero ending”), while some nouns will have an –ии ending in the prepositional case. These nouns have a penultimate (second to last) letter –и–.
