which atoms have πu(2p) and σg(2p) switched so the σ orbital comes after the π orbital?
Li2, Be2,B2, C2,N2
what is homonuclear? do g and u apply?
it is when two of the same atom are bonded, g and u apply
why do the πu(2p) and σg(2p) flip for oxygen and flourine?
the difference in energy between the 2s and 2p orbitals is further apart in these regions and this causes changes to the ordering of the molecular obitals
what is a heteronuclear molecule and how does its M.O diagram change?
it is where two different atoms are bonded to eachother and the g and u no longer apply because the atoms and orbitals are purely different and are not characterized by opposite or the same phases
what is paramagnetic
when there is at least one unpaired electron
what is diamagnetic
when there are no unpaired electrons
how do diamagnetic molecules interact with the magnetic field
they do not interact with it
how to paramagnetic molecules interact with the magnetic field
they interact with it
what determines the bond length?
a larger bond order will have a smaller bond length
what determines the bond energy?
a larger bond order will be stronger and have a larger energy
what determines the bond force constant (k)
a larger bond order will have a stronger bond and have a larger k
what determines the vibrational frequency (bond order)
a larger bond order will have a larger k which will result in a larger vibrational frequency
g x u is?
even x odd =odd (u)
gx g is?
even (g)
uxu is?
even (g)
